about this book, from the author please rEAD
The poems in this book portray my successful and often humorous journey toward self-acceptance AND empowerment.
For many years of my life, I could not do what I wanted to do because of my self-doubt, fear, and lack of assertiveness. Simply speaking, I lived in the space between knowing what to do and doing it. For this book, I selected those poems that helped shorten that space for me. Each of these poems, even the goofy ones, either taught me something new about myself, or motivated me to make a positive change. Through intimate understanding and connection with the self, this book became a poem-by-poem guide for my emotional and physical wellness. I found myself reaching my goals faster and living a happier life.
I like poetry that is simple, that triggers something in me, makes me think, challenges me, makes me feel, tear up or smile. I like poetry with a moral. You will find these kinds of poems in this book.

"Send these poems to me, and you send them fast." —Oprah Winfrey
December 7, 2016
In 2004 Oprah Winfrey put her hands on my shoulders and said, "You send these poems to me, and you send them fast."
I never did. I was too frightened and too uncomfortable to be visible.
I have never publicly stated that I was a guest on Oprah Winfrey's show until today. I bring it up now because events of that day, triggered me to wonder whether others could benefit from my healing poems. Maybe it was my fear of vulnerability that was not allowing me to share. It took me years of work on myself to finally become comfortable sharing not only my vulnerabilities—but what's harder for me—sharing my strength and my gifts. Twelve years later, I finally gathered from the pages of my journal the poems that transformed my life and put them into this special book, A Thin Book of Fat Poems.
It has made me happy to see professionals in the field of psychotherapy, medicine and other healing arts quote some of my poems or writings from my website and my online literary journal, TheHealingPoems.com. It is my vision that this book will be used as a workbook for various support groups, as a launch point for discussions, or as a trigger for helping people reach a deeper level of healing within themselves.
I am sharing this book with you because now I believe that it can be an effective tool not only for me, but for all who journey towards self-discovery, self-acceptance, self-improvement, and who could use a little bit of humor on their way.

REVIEWS
A Full five star review by reader's favorite READ MORE
"A Thin Book of Fat Poems by Liliana Kohann is a wonderful book of poetry and journal entries that will take you on a journey of self-discovery. The poems will make you laugh out loud or touch your heart, but there is always a clear, strong message behind each one. Through the brilliantly crafted poems, you will explore what the deep-rooted thought patterns are concerning addiction and low self-esteem. You will also be motivated to make positive changes in your life and uncover your potential. The poetry is thought-provoking and compelling. It will trigger you to have the confidence to change your negative self-image to a positive one by accepting yourself for who you are, and having the confidence to take the first step. Each poem is designed to question your own inner thoughts and drive you to a more fulfilling life.
From the first poem, Three Desserts, this book of poetry grabbed my attention. Every poem made you consider why you are prolonging taking action to reach personal goals. The journal entries were a personal insight from the author, but ones I could relate to, especially Today I Allowed Myself To Cry, which was extremely sad. The Mirror looked at the destructive problem of negative self-image. There were also poems such as You Can, which inspires change by reminding us that we all have a choice in life, whether to fight for your goals or concede. My favourite poem, however, was Most Stubborn Thing, which cleverly describes the arguments you have with your excess weight: ‘No matter what I say or do it sits right here, fearing nobody. ’ I think every woman has done that at some point in their lives. A perfect gift for any woman who wants to make powerful changes in her life and be entertained in the process."

"If you loved Dr. Seuss as a child, you will love this book as an adult."
—Amazon Review
"Truly delightful, funny and witty poems, most with a surprising twist at the end that can deliver a punch of unexpected depth and meaning. The author has delivered, with great creativity and humor, very personal and inspiring messages to which most everyone can relate. And her uniquely comical drawings bring nothing but joy! You must get this book!"

"Her simple yet profound poems feel like a friend's whisper, reminding us to honor and embrace our unique souls."
—Sheila Ellison, bestselling author
"We were looking for a UNIQUE GIFT for our friend. This book is it! It is like a cross between Rumi, Shel Silverstein, and yet something else because Liliana's writing is so vulnerable. The unexpected twists at the end of many poems just hit you right in your heart."
—Chris & Anne Bordinelli
"A Thin Book of Fat Poems may be best described as a series of metaphors for all the ways we dissuade ourselves from those self-evident truths we do so well to rationalize away. The freshness of Liliana’s reflection offers the reader a moment to ponder the universality of avoidance, denial and self-justification. The poems themselves offer the reader the opportunity to join a march towards a more healthy dialogue with ourselves and in the process, gain freedom from the tyranny of habits and detours. The honesty that Liliana brings to her work is experienced in feeling as much as understood, and is a breath of fresh air for the reader. There is no proselytizing, nor is there any hint of superiority, only the sharing of a personal journey that we can all identify with. The artwork is also worth note and stands solidly in its own right, yet provides a visual to our emotional experience of the poetry. All in all, a delight."

"The book is by my bed. When I feel down or discouraged, I open it at a random place, and I always discover new layers of wisdom and inspiration."
—Katie Allison
"Liliana's book is like a poem-by-poem guide toward emotional wellness. Not through step by step solutions, but through intimate understanding of the self." — J.K.
“Liliana’s style of writing (and drawing) is simple, direct and has a wonderful childlike quality,
and yet the WISDOM contained within these poems is PROFOUND and psychologically sophisticated. I especially recall a day when Liliana was reciting one of her poems and the thought that kept running through my mind was that this was Dr. SEUSS for ADULTS! Lilting, fun, the mental pictures easily and quickly evoked by her poems seem to allow adults to listen with their 'guards down,' and the poems' messages therefore hit a deeper place in the listener's psyche."
--Linda Leftwitch, Ph.D.
"From the first page I read I started laughing. This book captures the struggles of losing weight with HUMOR."

"Dear Liliana, I have never written to an author before but after reading your book I just wanted to share how I feel. A few weeks ago, I ordered three books from you to give to my friends (kept one for myself). This is the MOST UNIQUE GIFT I could've found! Your book gives strength, inspiration, and hope. My friends were so grateful to me! So I just wanted to thank you."
