In 2004 I was a guest on Oprah Winfrey’s show. It is through Oprah’s and Sheila Ellison's encouragements that I started gathering from the pages of my journal the poems that transformed my life and eventually put them into this special book, A Thin Book of Fat Poems. “A perfect GIFT for any woman (or man) who wants to make powerful changes in her life and be entertained in the process.”
—Reviewed by Lesley Jones for Reader's Favorite "If you loved Dr. Seuss as a child, you will love this book as an adult." —Excerpt from Amazon Reviews
"Truly delightful, funny and witty poems, most with a surprising twist at the end that can deliver a punch of unexpected depth and meaning. The author has delivered, with great creativity and humor, very personal and inspiring messages to which most everyone can relate. And her uniquely comical drawings bring nothing but joy! You must get this book!" —Excerpt from Amazon Reviews Read a full review by Reader's favorite HERE
A Five Star Review by Reader's Favorite "A Thin Book of Fat Poems by Liliana Kohann is a wonderful book of poetry and journal entries that will take you on a journey of self-discovery. The poems will make you laugh out loud or touch your heart, but there is always a clear, strong message behind each one. Through the brilliantly crafted poems, you will explore what the deep-rooted thought patterns are concerning addiction and low self-esteem. You will also be motivated to make positive changes in your life and uncover your potential. The poetry is thought-provoking and compelling. It will trigger you to have the confidence to change your negative self-image to a positive one by accepting yourself for who you are, and having the confidence to take the first step. Each poem is designed to question your own inner thoughts and drive you to a more fulfilling life. From the first poem, Three Desserts, this book of poetry grabbed my attention. Every poem made you consider why you are prolonging taking action to reach personal goals. The journal entries were a personal insight from the author, but ones I could relate to, especially Today I Allowed Myself To Cry, which was extremely sad. The Mirror looked at the destructive problem of negative self-image. There were also poems such as You Can, which inspires change by reminding us that we all have a choice in life, whether to fight for your goals or concede. My favourite poem, however, was Most Stubborn Thing, which cleverly describes the arguments you have with your excess weight: ‘No matter what I say or do it sits right here, fearing nobody. ’ I think every woman has done that at some point in their lives. A perfect gift for any woman who wants to make powerful changes in her life and be entertained in the process." —Reviewed by Lesley Jones for Reader's Favorite "...The poems themselves offer the reader the opportunity to join a march towards a more healthy dialogue with ourselves and in the process, gain FREEDOM from the tyranny of habits and detours."
—A. Scott Greer, Ph.D. "Her simple yet profound poems feel like a friend's whisper, reminding us to honor and embrace our unique souls." —Sheila Ellison, bestselling author |
"This is DR SEUSS for adults." —Linda Leftwitch, Ph.D.
TWO CREATURES
How Logic and Intuition became friends.
How Logic and Intuition became friends.
"Life can sometimes get very complicated. We want to have fun, but at the same time, there are things we must do. We are often torn between pleasure and responsibility. Freela is a fun-loving, free spirit who wants to enjoy life to its fullest with music, friends and lots of laughter; Dodette is a doer and always wants things done just so. It can be a tug of war between pleasure and responsibility, between Freela and Dodette. What is a person to do? How can one achieve a balance between these two opposing entities? Or, are they opposing? Can there be a compromise? The answer is deep within our hearts: a balance to maintain our sense of equilibrium between fun and responsibility.
Understanding this need for balance can be complicated and difficult for young readers. Liliana Kohann’s picture book story, Two Creatures, is a wonderful tool to help young readers. The two creatures, of course, are Freela and Dodette. And the boy caught in the middle could potentially be any one of us. With beautiful rhyming verse and imaginative, sometimes comical illustrations, this story will help young readers look deep into their own hearts to find solutions - to learn how to work together as Freela and Dodette learn to help each other; to learn how to resolve conflicts like Freela and Dodette learn how to compromise and help each other; and how to be imaginative and intuitive in solving difficult problems. A wonderful tool to help young readers understand themselves and others, too." --reviewed by Emily-Jane Hills Orford for Readers' Favorite |
