"DR SEUSS FOR ADULTS"
— Linda Leftwitch, PhD Goodreads Win Review:
This book "...is about finding yourself and blossoming into a UNIQUE person." "From the first page I read I started laughing. This book captures the struggles of losing weight with HUMOR." Other reviews: "...The poems themselves offer the reader the opportunity to join a march towards a more healthy dialogue with ourselves and in the process, gain FREEDOM from the tyranny of habits and detours. —A. Scott Greer, Ph.D. "We were looking for a UNIQUE GIFT for our friend. This book is it! It is like a cross between Rumi, Shel Silverstein, and yet something else because Liliana's writing is so vulnerable. The unexpected twists at the end of many poems just hit you right in your heart." —Chris and Anne |

In 2004 Oprah Winfrey put her hands on my shoulders and said: "You send these poems to me, and you send them fast."
I never did. I was too frightened and too uncomfortable to be visible.
I didn't even mentioned that I was on Oprah Winfrey's show until today. I am bringing it up now as in a way, it was the beginning of this book. It took me years of work on myself to finally come to the point of comfort in sharing not only my vulnerabilities—but what's harder for me—sharing my strength and my gifts. Twelve years later, I finally gathered from the pages of my journal the poems that transformed my life and put them into this special book, A Thin Book of Fat Poems.
It has made me happy to see professionals in the field of psychotherapy, medicine and other healing arts quote some of my poems or writings from my website and my online literary journal, TheHealingPoems.com. It is my vision that this book will be used as a work book for various support group, as a launch point for discussions, or as a trigger for helping people reach a deeper level of healing within themselves.
I am sharing this book with you because I believe that it can be an effective tool not only for me, but for all who journey towards self-discovery, self-acceptance and self-improvement, and who could use a little bit of humor on their way.

HUMOR
My supper and 3 desserts
I just ate. And ate, and ate. And now I am ready to plan how to lose all this weight. And I better do it FAST, before I get hungry again. Cause, you see, when Hunger comes It may also eat my plan! |
Wisdom
...It’s not my recklessness,
it is my curiosity, and love of life. It’s not my chaos, it’s my artistic soul. It’s not my weakness, it is my UNIQUNESS. |

“Liliana’s style of writing (and drawing) is simple, direct and has a wonderful childlike quality,
and yet the WISDOM contained within these poems is PROFOUND and psychologically sophisticated. I especially recall a day when Liliana was reciting one of her poems and the thought that kept running through my mind was that this was Dr. SEUSS for ADULTS! Lilting, fun, the mental pictures easily and quickly evoked by her poems seem to allow adults to listen with their 'guards down,' and the poems' messages therefore hit a deeper place in the listener's psyche."

"A Thin Book of Fat Poems may be best described as a series of metaphors for all the ways we dissuade ourselves from
those self-evident truths we do so well to rationalize away. The freshness of Liliana’s reflection offers the reader a moment to ponder the universality of avoidance, denial and self-justification. The poems themselves offer the reader the opportunity to join a march towards a more healthy dialogue with ourselves and in the process, gain freedom from the tyranny of habits and detours. The honesty that Liliana brings to her work is experienced in feeling as much as understood, and is a breath of fresh air for the reader. There is no proselytizing, nor is there any hint of superiority, only the sharing of a personal journey that we can all identify with. The artwork is also worth note and stands solidly in its own right, yet provides a visual to our emotional experience of the poetry. All in all, a delight."

Excerpts from the Note to the Reader
page 10
I’d like to clarify that my use of the word “fat” in this book’s title actually refers to much more than the stuff that gets stuck around our waists. Taking full advantage of poetic license,
I use the word “fat” to represent any unnecessary weight one carries by oneself, or puts unnecessarily on others. This unhealthy, slowly-killing-us emotional, physical, and spiritual residue is a weight we were never designed to carry."
page 7
"...Whether it was Divine inspiration, my subconscious, or simply my desire to get better, these poems took the form of an inner coach, an inner healer. They seemed to provide me with a roadmap of what I needed to change in my life, and, at the same time, to give me the right and permission to fully experience and express the pain or any other emotion I was feeling." When you give yourself permission to fully feel, this is when you become free. And wonderful things come with that freedom. There were more and more times that I'd see different characters emerging out of my poems, and I just couldn't help but laugh. Tears and laughter can feed the hunger of one’s soul much faster than food.
